The Uttar Pradesh-Bihar students who reportedly roughed up Kashmiri students at Punjab’s Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology (BGIET) college have not been expelled, according to college officials. This follows a social media post in which a Kashmiri student claims that college administrators had taken action against UP-Bihar students. The fights were reported when Kashmiri students in a Punjab college were caught celebrating and chanting for Pakistan after India was defeated on the ground in a T20 World Cup match by their opponents.
Four Students from Bihar/UP who opposed Kashmiri students in Punjab for their celebration of Pakistan win were removed from the hostel. They were also asked to pay fines for the things broken during the clash. No action so far was against Kashmiri students.
According to reports, students from Kashmir, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Haryana were watching the India-Pakistan cricket match in their separate rooms. The Kashmiri students were purportedly celebrating Pakistan and shouting “Azadi!” After the game, they allegedly let off firecrackers to celebrate Pakistan’s victory. Students from other states became irritated by their actions and challenged them. The students’ debate quickly devolved into a scuffle.
MS Chinna, Inspector General of Police Patiala (Range), stated that students from Kashmir and UP/Bihar got into a fight.
Both parties have apologised and said in writing that they would not engage in such activities in the future and will concentrate on their education.” As a result, the situation has been settled peacefully
Guninderjit Singh, director of Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology, informed that the institute has formed a five-member committee to probe the event, which includes the dean, students’ welfare, the dean of affairs, and others. If someone is proved to be guilty, the institute may take action. “A little spat and heated confrontations took place between Kashmiri students and those from UP and Bihar,” he continued, “but certain disturbing videos doing the rounds on social media do not relate to the event at our campus.” He also said that allegations of students being harmed were incorrect.
Now the suspension of Four students has been revoked by the college authority as ordered earlier.
According to Associate Professor Pranjal Shukla, there was a little scuffle between the students, which was immediately handled. “The social media stories are untrue,” he remarked when asked about them. There were no rustications. We will not take any such action. They are our offspring. Nothing will happen to the UP and Bihar students. We have no intention of taking any action against any student.”
