Nafisa Atari Arrested, terminated from a job for supporting Pakistan in T20 World Cup

Nafisa Attari, a school teacher from Rajasthan’s Udaipur who celebrated Pakistan’s victory against India in Sunday’s T20 World Cup match has been arrested by the police.

A private school teacher in Rajasthan’s Udaipur was expelled after she reportedly expressed joy over Pakistan’s victory against India in Sunday’s T20 match. The teacher, identified as one Nafeesa Attari, was expelled from the Neerja Modi School in Udaipur after she reportedly shared messages on WhatsApp supporting Pakistan in the T20 match.

According to photographs that were widely shared on social media, Attari posted photographs of Pakistani players and updated her status as ‘we won’. When she was asked if she supported Pakistan, the teacher replied by saying ‘yes’. When contacted, Attari said that it was a joke and that she and her family and friends had divided the teams between them.

In the post, Atari had shared an image of Pakistani players with the text, “Jeet gaye, we won”. When one of the parents asked her whether she supported Pakistan, Nafisa replied in the affirmative with a ‘Yes’.

After screenshots of the teacher’s status on WhatsApp spread, the school management expelled her.

After being sacked, she put out a video message where she apologised and claimed her post was taken “out of context”.
