Scarlett Johansson – The Black Widow star sued Walt Disney over the release of her movie in theatres as well as OTT Platform Disney+. Scarlett says it has resulted into a loss of her earnings and was also a breach of Contract by Disney.
The Lawsuit filed by Scarlett against Walt Disney has now come to settlement terms between the two. The Settlement terms however have not been made public.
“I am happy to have resolved our differences with Disney. I’m incredibly proud of the work we’ve done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team. I look forward to continuing our collaboration.” Scarlett stated.
Alan Bergman – the Chairman of Disney Studios Content has expressed his pleasure over the settlement.
“I’m very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding ‘Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney’s ‘Tower of Terror.'” He said.
The contract between Scarlett and Disney was to release the movie in theatres using the traditional approach. However, due to the conditions as laid down in the Covid – 19 pandemic, the studio made a simultaneous release on Disney +. Scarlett alleged that she lost out on a huge tens of millions of dollars in the business. She claimed for a 50 Million Dollar payout from the studio.
Disney reverted with accusations over Johansson of displaying “callous disregard for the horrific and prolonged global effects of the Covid – 19 pandemic.” Disney disclosed that they had already paid an amount of $20 Million for the project.
Many other actors including Jamie Lee Curtis and Elizabeth Olsen among others extended their support toward Johansson. Many actors and film makers have disregarded the hybrid release pattern stating that it causes low earnings as compared to the earlier traditional method.
