A farmer’s protest happened in UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri on Sunday where 8 people were killed including 4 farmers and 4 BJP Workers. The protest began ahead of the visit of the Union Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of UP, Shri Keshav Prasad Maurya’s visit to Lakhimpur Kheri district. Farmers had decided to block the roads as well as gather around the helipads in order to obstruct the visiting Ministers.
As the car reached Lakhimpur Khera district, the farmers surrounded the car and started pelting stones on the car. They also set the vehicles on fire.
Union Minister Ajay Mishra’s son is alleged to mow down the protestors by a car, which has been denied by both the Minister and his son. They said that the son was not present at the incident place. A total of 3 cars were mowed down the farmers due to which one farmer died on the spot and one in the hospital. Leaders of the Farmer’s Union accuse Minister Ajay Mishra’s son to be present in one car that mowed down the farmers.
The Minister said that farmers showed black flags and overturned the cars while also pelting stones. While the farmers overturned the cars, 2 farmers came under the car and died. 3 BJP Workers and 1 driver were also beaten to death by the protestors. Many others were injured.
Police has blocked the area and imposed Section 144 of CrPC which prohibits the gathering of more than 4 people in one place. Internet services were also turned off due to the increasing violence. Amidst the situation, many opposition leaders started their way toward the incident spot to empathise with the protestor farmers and their families.
