A 26-year-old gym trainer was shot by a man who was against him marrying his sister, in Model Town, Northwest Delhi on Saturday night.
The gym trainer was shot in the head by the accused Shahnawaz, who was upset with Deva Chand, the gym trainer, marrying his sister, a Muslim, because the two are from different faith/religion. The condition of the injured gym trainer is critical, the police said.
The attackers were arrested by the Special staff team of Northwest district police within six hours of the crime.
Two firearms along with a bullet bike, which the accused must have used in the crime, were recovered from their possession.
The accused, Shahnawaz (21) and his friend Hrithik (20) have been booked under a case of attempt to murder. Deva and the sister of the accused got married in July this year, against the wishes of their parents as Deva was a Hindu and the woman was a Muslim.
Although Deva’s family accepted the girl, but the girl’s family ended all the relations with her. The incident happened when Deva and his wife had gone to meet his wife’s brother.
The police said that they received information of the crime around midnight.
“We received an information around midnight that Deva was on a bike with two men. The pillion riders fired at him and fled. We identified the accused and sent our teams to catch them. They have been apprehended and are being questioned.”
Deva’s wife told that her family members have been against her marriage and they even stopped talking to her.
“My husband and I got married at a temple this year. Last night, Shahnawaz called Deva and said that he wanted to meet us. It’s been three months since I have spoken to my brother, I was happy and went to meet him. However, they dropped me off at Model Town and went on their bike. I returned home and received a call later that night about the firing. I want Shahnawaz to be punished. I never knew that he would do this to his brother-in-law. I know he was upset, but I never expected this would happen. I want my husband to be alright.”
Shahnawaz and his friends Harshit and Hrithik has confessed to the crime. Their further interrogation is on.
