The accused, Shaikh, along with his parents mentally and physically harassed the woman and demanded kitchen appliances, air cooler along with money to buy a flat.
A 28-year-old woman from Pune filed a case with the Samartha Police against her husband for divorcing her by sending a talaq message on whatsapp.
The Police registered a case against the husband and the victim’s mother-in-law under sections of the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act, 2019. The Act bans the practice of instant triple talaq and sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Assistant Inspector, HB Khopde said that a few months ago the husband and in-laws of the woman asked her to leave their house and return to her parent’s house along with her girl child. In March, he sent her a whatsapp message giving her triple talaq. The woman recently approached the police and filed a complaint, based on which we booked her husband and her in-laws.
On 10 March, 2021, the woman’s husband sent a whatsapp text to her saying triple talaq. The victim lodged an FIR, against the manner in which her husband gave her talaq.
The case has been registered against the accused under the sections 498A, 323, 504 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code along with sections 3 and 4 of Muslim Act, 2019.
