A 30-year-old woman who is deaf and hard of hearing was allegedly raped several times by a man who lives near her home in Northeast Delhi. On Sunday, the woman went to the police station with her mother and sister to report the alleged incident. She claimed he had been sexually assaulting her since November 22 and had threatened her not to tell anyone in her complaint. Rehan Tofiq (34), the accused, has been arrested.

The accused was arrested, according to police, based on the woman’s statement and medical examination.
After being brought before a court, the accused was placed in judicial custody.

“The Delhi Commission for Women was informed, and a counsellor was sent to the station,” a senior police officer said. We needed an interpreter because the victim is deaf and hard of hearing. The woman arrived at the station late at night, when no government official was available. We hired a private interpreter, and her statement was recorded with the assistance of the DCW counsellor.”
A case has been filed under the sections of rape and criminal intimidation. Officials said the woman was taken to the hospital for a medical exam after recording her statement. Rehan was arrested and taken into custody after a court hearing based on her statement and medical examination, according to police.
