State Advocate General, Atul Nanda resigned a day after Captain Amarinder Singh resigned as Punjab Chief Minister.
Atul Nanda is a Senior Advocate in the Supreme Court and he was considered a “family friend” of Capt. Amarinder Singh. On Sunday, Nanda resigned saying that his appointment was co-terminus with the Chief Minister’s appointment.
He was involved in a controversy in February this year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bar Association (HCBA) passed a resolution demanding the resignation of Nanda from the association as he acted against the interest of the Bar and worked against physical hearings. The Bar Council of Punjab had stayed the resolution stating that Atul Nanda always stood for the cause of the Advocates.
He further in his letter said, “In case, I have fallen short of your expectations or I have faltered at any time, please forgive me. I would also like to thank the members of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Bat, who though I was thought to be an outsider, welcomed me as a friend and made a member of their family and their lives.”
“This is no farewell message. I’m always there for each and every one of you. I cannot and will not forget these years. They will be a precious part of me forever. Always,” concluded State Advocate General, Atul Nanda.
