Mehbooba Mufti put under house arrest, claims PDP


Mehbooba Mufti, President of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was put under house arrest on Monday. She was going to visit Anantnag, to meet the family of a youth who was killed in cross-firing between security forces and militants last week.

Mehbooba was put under house arrest at her Fairview resident in Gupkar locality of Srinagar and was not allowed to move out of the house.

The main gate of the former Jammu and Kashmir’s Cheif Minister’s house has been blocked by the police as claimed by the leader of PDP leader. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the PDP Chief isn’t allowed to go to Anantnag due to security reasons.

“She was to visit the family of slain youth Shahid Ahmad in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district. She wanted to offer her condolences to the bereaved family, but was not allowed to move out of her residence.”

According to the police, Mehbooba was going to visit the family of a youth named Shahid who was killed in an exchange firing between CRPF Personnel and militants in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir on October 24.

Ahmad’s death had evoked strong reactions from mainstream political parties in the valley and they had demanded a probe into it. Mehbooba Mufti led People’s Democratic Party had said that it was sad that the armed forces “operate with such impunity” in Kashmir.- PTI.
