Self-defense training programs are designed to equip individuals with the skills and techniques necessary to protect themselves in potentially dangerous situations.

The Self-Defense Training Workshop organized by the Internal Complaints Committee, Shri Ram College of Commerce, held on 3rd September 2024 in the Shridhar Shriram Auditorium, was a significant initiative aimed at empowering women through education and practical self-defense skills. This impactful event brought together women from various walks of life, distinguished guests, and expert trainers with the shared goal of equipping participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to protect themselves in any situation. The workshop served not only as a platform for skill-building but also as a call to action, reinforcing the importance of women's safety and resilience in today’s society.

The workshop commenced with a warm welcome to all participants and a reflection on the critical importance of women's safety in today’s world. The session began with the recitation of a powerful Sanskrit verse: “Where women are honoured, divinity blossoms; where they are dishonoured, all actions remain unfruitful.” This set a respectful and meaningful tone, underscoring the value and respect that society must extend to women. The opening address highlighted the growing concerns over violence, harassment, and sexual assault against women globally. It emphasized the shared responsibility of society to ensure women's safety, extending beyond just law enforcement. The Chief Guests, Mr. Ram Manohar Mishra (SHO, Thana Sabzi Mandi), Dr. Priya Thakur (CEO, Vidhik Sahayata), and Ms. Yukti Rathi (Founder, The Supreme Rights) were recognized for their ongoing advocacy for women's rights and safety. They were welcomed with a symbolic presentation of saplings, representing growth, strength, and resilience- key themes of the workshop. Each guest shared valuable insights on the importance of women's safety and the vital role self-defense plays in fostering a safer environment for women. The highlight of the event was the Self-Defense Workshop conducted by I/C Joginder and Trainers Shakti, Sneh Lata, and Ashu, all seasoned experts in self-defense. The session was meticulously designed to teach practical techniques that participants could apply in real-life threatening situations. Beyond physical training, the workshop aimed to empower participants mentally, equipping them with the confidence to protect themselves. The workshop concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof. Rachna Jawa, Teacher-in-charge of the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), and faculty member Mr. Sudhanshu Yadav and Miss Zuleta Khan. They emphasized the ongoing commitment to creating a safe environment for women both on campus and beyond. The closing remarks encouraged participants to carry the strength and confidence gained from the workshop into their daily lives, fostering a culture where every woman feels safe, respected, and empowered. The event coordinators, Advocates Kanika Gupta, Jigyasa Rathi, and Ankur Mishra, were acknowledged for their significant contributions to the planning and management of the event. Overall, the Self-Defense Workshop was a remarkable success, equipping participants with essential skills and the mindset necessary to assert their right to live without fear. The event underscored the importance of collective efforts from both men and women to challenge harmful behaviours and attitudes and to advocate for a safer, more inclusive society.
