Uber Drivers Should Be Treated As Employees: Netherland Court.

A Dutch Court ruled on Monday, that Uber drivers should be treated as employees rather than independent contractors.

However, the Uber company said that it will appeal against the decision of the Court and has no plans to employ drivers.

We are disappointed with this decision because we know that the overwhelming majority of drivers wish to remain independent. Drivers don’t want to give up their freedom to choose if, when and where to work.

General Manager of Uber, Maurits Schonfeld.

According to the decision of the Amsterdam District Court, the Uber drivers will be entitled to higher pay. The decision was made after the case was registered by Labour Union FNV, against the Uber last year, citing concerns over drivers’ wages and rights.

“Real self employed workers can determine their own rate and determine how they carry out their work. This is not the case with drivers who drive for Uber.”

FNV Vice President Zakaria Boufangacha

The Court also, observed that the drivers are covered under the existing collective labour agreement in the country.
The Uber has lost a number of tribunal rulings over its employment classification in the U.K.

Uber said, “Nothing will change for drivers who use the app, as we appeal this ruling.”
