An assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump has increased concerns about political violence in US.

A gunmen was identified by FBI,  as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, who opened fire at a rally on July 14 in Butler, Pennsylvania, which causes injury to Trump’s ear. The Secret Service confirmed that Crooks was killed. An audience member, Corey Comperatore, died in the shooting and two other attendees were critically injured. Trump was taken to a local hospital and discharged after few hours.

Many videos were captured by media reporting during Trump’s speech at his rally. Blood could be seen on his face, he touches his ear and then crouched to the ground.

In a social media post shared on last night, Trump thanked law enforcement officials of US for their rapid actions.

President Joe Biden said “Politics must never be a literal Battlefield, God forbid a killing field”.

Donald Trump says that he was shot in the ear during the election rally and calls on Americans to “stand united” after the coward assassination attempt.

The 20 – year old gunman – Thomas Crooks, was shot dead by the Secret Service at the Pennsylvania campaign event but his motive and intentions remains a mystery. FBI is working to access Crooks’s phone to learn more about what led up the attempted assassination.

Trump’s first reaction after assassination attempt

Former President Donald Trump has given one of his first interviews since the attempt on his life was made at the Pennsylvania elections campaigns, saying he has completely rewritten his convention speech to focus on a message of “unity” instead of criticising president Joe Biden.

“The speech I was going to give on Thursday was going to be a humdinger,” he told the Washington Examiner.

“Had this not happened, this would’ve been one of the most incredible speeches,” he also said, adding that it would have been aimed mostly at the President Biden’s policies.

“Honestly, it’s going to be a whole different speech now. It is a chance to bring the country together. I was given that chance.”

Trump also said that the “reality” of what happened on Saturday “is just setting in,” and described the moment he looked up at the crowd after realising he had been shot. “The energy coming from the people there in that moment, they just stood there; it’s hard to describe what that felt like, but I knew the world was looking. I knew that history would judge this, and I knew I had to let them know we are OK,” he told the Examiner.
